Tema Restoration Agenda

As a testament to government's resolve to run a transparent and participatory administration, the Tema Metropolitan Assembly under the auspices of Ministry of Information held ''Meet the Press'' this morning to communicate to the public various development projects and social interventions being rolled out by government to improve the lot of citizenry. The highlights of my presentation was in the following thematic areas:

1. Sanitation and Waste Management
* Completion of 4 major storm drains through the help of GAMA
* Construction of 650 household toilets under the rapid response initiative project phase 3
* Capacity building arrangements with the city of Aarhus in Denmark for the training of personnel in the area of efficient and sustainable waste management
* Formation of Restoration Ambassadors (a team of dedicated and enthusiastic young men and women) who sweep the major streets and de-silt choked gutters daily

2. Education
* Operation-Adopt-a-School (Cargill Gh. Ltd. refurbished the entire structure of Akodzo JHS and furnished the computer laboratory). More companies have expressed interest in the project and modalities are being worked out
* School fencing to stem the incidence of encroachment and promote conducive learning environment (10 of such fencing is currently ongoing)
* Construction of 2-storey 12 unit classroom block at Community 7 No. 1&2 JHS
* Construction of six unit classroom block at Manhean Presby School
* Supply of 2,000 Mono desks to 7 SHS including Tema SHS

3. Health
* In the process of upgrading Tema Manhean Poly Clinic into a full-fledged hospital in collaboration with Member of Parliament for Tema East
* Fencing and pavement of CHPS compound at Adjetey Ansah and Bankuman

4. Security
* Procurement of 3,000 new streetlights
* Installation and repair of over 1,000 streetlights so far
* Provision of monthly allocation to MESEC members to intensify police and military patrols and visibility

Other interventions
* Refurbishment and fencing of the Tema East Sup-Metro office
* Fencing of Manhean cemetery to stop encroachment
* Local Economic Development
+ Supply of 72 outboard motors to Fisher folks in Manhean Landing Beach
+ Construction of 20 'Ahotor Ovens' for fishmongers in Manhean
+ Construction of Skills Development Training Center at Adjetey Ansah
+ Organized 4 skills training seminars for the youth and other vulnerable interest groups in the Metropolis
+ Continuous support for people living with disabilities among others
* Provision of scholarships for over 815 needy but brilliant students at all levels of education.

Finance and Revenue Mobilization
* Launch of Integrated Revenue Management System software to pluck loopholes in the revenue collection functions
* Revaluation of all properties in the Metropolis
* Use of National Service and NaBCO staff for the collection of B.O.P. data
